My journey so far
In 1995, I graduated in Media Studies from Derby University and embarked on a 15- year career in PR, television production, and film postproduction. However, everything changed when I welcomed my first child in 2010, prompting me to focus on being a mother at home.
An ambitious venture
During my time as a stay-at-home parent, I have witnessed the remarkable impact of technology on young children’s lives and the impact the pandemic has had on them. I have listened to the concerns of parents about social media and whether to ‘give in’ or not, and the tantrums from children when told they’re not allowed.
Fuelling my drive is the experience with my own children, aged 13,11 and 9 whom I have not allowed to have social media profiles on most platforms, much to their annoyance. However, instead of feeling self-righteous, I find myself walking a tightrope between safeguarding and clipping their wings. There are no winners at the end of our social media battles, just an exasperated parent.
So, it is with the help (and occasional eye-rolling) of my family, that we established Chukawuka Ltd in 2021 with the bold aim of creating an alternative platform called U.Tree, that will keep children engaged and parents sane!
